Four institutions phased out

The draft laws repealing four institutions, including the National Commission for the Fight Against Genocide (CNLG), National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), National Itorero Commission (NIC), and the Fund for Support and Assistance to the Neediest Survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi, were approved at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. (FARG).

The four entities were phased out a few months after the new Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement was established (MINUBUMWE).

Dr. Jean Damascène Bizimana, who formerly served as the Executive Secretary of the CNLG, is currently in charge of the Ministry.

At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, draft laws repealing four institutions, including the National Commission for the Fight Against Genocide (CNLG), the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), the National Itorero Commission (NIC), and the Fund for Support and Assistance to the Neediest Survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi. (FARG).

A few months after the new Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement was founded, the four institutions were phased away (MINUBUMWE).

The Ministry is now led by Dr. Jean Damascène Bizimana, who formerly served as the CNLG’s Executive Secretary.

National Unity and Citizenship Education, Research and Policy Development, Memory and Genocide Prevention, and Community Resilience are the four pillars of the new Ministry.
